Talented, young, British-born designer Yaelle Caplan has created a luxurious silk scarf for ‘England’s Leading Boutique Hotel’ Dukes Hotel, London. The exclusive design with miniature frames depicting a bottle of Perrier Jouet, a martini glass, cocktail shaker and a dachshund representing the cast iron ‘Dukesie Dog’ that welcomes guests in the hotel lobby are worn by staff and for sale to guests. Dukes Hotel contacted her after seeing a piece on Vogue  blog.  Yaelle, from Sheffield, was an intern with Matthew Williamson and worked with Roksanda Ilincic. Yaelle scarves are printed in England using the latest digital technologies onto fine crepe de chine silk.

Other scarves in her commercial collection have hand crafted charms sewn on – an Eiffel Tower on the Paris scarf or a Babushka Doll on the Russian scarf. A motif throughout much of the work is the hamsa, a palm-shaped amulet  used as a sign of protection. Prices around £145.00.

The charming 24-year-old designer has indeed created an exquisite silk scarf for the hotel and its guests that blur the lines between fashion and art.

It’s tough to know whether to wear it or frame it on the wall.
